8.2 Final Drive Disassembly and AssemblyThe final drive gear set in the transaxle consists of the pinion gear, on the transmission pinion shaft, and the ring gear mounted to the differential. If the final drive gears are to be changed or replaced, the pinion shaft and ring gear must be replaced as a set. For information on removing, installing and adjusting the pinion shaft, see 7.2 Transmission Gear Train Disassembly and Assembly. Many of the procedures described in this section of the manual suggest or require the use of special tools. Unless otherwise specified, the numbers which appear in the illustrations identify Volkswagen special tools by their Volkswagen tool numbers. |
