7.1 Reconditioning Rear Disc Brakes

Reconditioning of the rear disc brakes typically includes replacing the brake pads and resurfacing or replacing the brake rotors. Unless the calipers and hoses are damaged, extremely worn, or leaking fluid, more extensive rear brake repairs are not normally required.

If the brake pads are soaked with oil, grease, or brake fluid, the cause of the contamination must be found and corrected before new pads are installed. Brake rotors must be replaced when resurfacing exceeds specified limits. See Removing, Reconditioning, and Installing Rear Brake Rotors for rotor thickness specifications.
