5.1 Reconditioning Front Disc Brakes

Reconditioning of the front disc brakes typically includes replacing the brake pads and resurfacing or replacing the brake rotors. Unless the calipers and hoses are damaged, extremely worn, or leaking fluid, more extensive front brake repairs are not normally required.

If the brake pads are soaked with oil, grease, or brake fluid, the cause of the contamination should be found and corrected before new pads are installed to prevent contamination of the new pads. Brake rotors must be replaced when resurfacing exceeds specified limits. See Removing, Reconditioning, and Installing Brake Rotors for rotor thickness and runout specifications.
