Replacing Brake Fluid

Brake fluid can be replaced by using the bleeding procedure to expel the old fluid. Remove the filter/strainer from the brake fluid reservoir and clean it in new, unused brake fluid, then fill the reservoir with new, unused brake fluid and bleed the brake system. Remove at least 1 pint (500 cc) of brake fluid at each caliper or wheel cylinder to completely expel the old fluid and replace it. See LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE for brake fluid specifications. Use only Volkswagen-approved brake fluid.

WARNING-

Special brake bleeding procedures apply for cars equipped with ABS. See 4.3 Bleeding Brakes (ABS only).
