7.1 Steering ColumnFig. 7-2 is an exploded view of the steering column. The steering column connects the steering wheel to the steering gear. Several accessory switches are also mounted on the tube which houses the steering column. The steering column tube is bolted to the body with shear bolts which are designed to brake in the event of a collision. Removal and installation of the steering column switches, including the windshield wipers and washers, the turn signals, the headlight high beam switch, and in some models the cruise control and multi-function indicator, is covered here. The electrical function and troubleshooting of these switches is covered in ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. |
