Checking Kickdown OperationKickdown operation is a feature designed into the transmission which gives maximum acceleration when the accelerator pedal is depressed to the full-throttle position. Depending on road speed and engine speed, kickdown either delays the upshift or downshifts into the next lower gear. The kickdown specifications vary with the exact type of transmission installed. See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION for information on how to identify a particular transmission. Table m gives the kickdown shift points in mph (km/h). Shifts should be smooth and positive. Incorrect shift points may simply mean that the accelerator cable is misadjusted. Slow shifting may mean that the bands or clutches are slipping. See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION for more testing and troubleshooting information. Table m. Kickdown Shift Points
