Checking and Filling Final Drive Lubricant

Because the oil is not contaminated by combustion byproducts, the final drive lubricant does not need to be routinely changed. Checking the lubricant level should only be necessary if hypoid oil leaks are discovered.

Check the lubricant level with the car level. Remove the oil filler plug, shown in Fig. 7-10, using a 17 mm hex wrench. The level is correct when the fluid just reaches the edge of the filler hole. See 3. Fluid and Lubricant Specifications. Torque the oil filler plug to 25 Nm (18 ft. lb.).
