Accelerator Cable and Throttle Cable

To remove the accelerator cable, place the selector lever in P and set the parking brake. Loosen the adjusting nut on the transmission operating lever to make the cable slack. Unhook the cable from the top of the accelerator pedal by prying off the clip on the cable end, and then pull the cable from the pedal. Unhook the cable from the transmission operating lever and pull it through the firewall into the passenger compartment.

To remove the throttle cable, place the selector lever in P and set the parking brake. Remove the cable end from the throttle valve (gasoline engines) or the speed control lever (diesel engines) by removing the retaining clip. Loosen the nuts mounting the cable to its bracket. Remove the retaining clip from the transmission end of the cable and pull the cable end from its ball socket.

Installation of either cable is the reverse of removal. Adjust the cables as described below in 4.2 External Transmission Adjustments.
