4. Shift Mechanism

The transverse mounting of the transaxle in vehicles covered by this manual requires a relatively complex mechanism of shafts and levers to transmit the movements of the gearshift lever to the transmission for gear changes. For any shifting problems, the gearshift mechanism should be inspected for wear and misalignment which might affect smooth or accurate shifting. Fig. 4-1 shows the arrangement of the shift mechanism and its directions of movement.
