4.5 Brake Pressure Regulator and Proportioning Valves

The load-sensing brake pressure regulator used on all GTI and Jetta models is shown in Fig. 4-3. It is mounted underneath the car with an actuating lever connected to the rear axle beam by a small spring. When the axle changes position, due to a heavy load or during hard braking, the pressure regulator varies the pressure to the rear brakes. The regulator is adjustable.

Golf models use proportioning valves, mounted in the brake lines at the master cylinder, to control the pressure to the rear wheels. The proportioning valves are not adjustable and have no load-sensing capability.
