Replacing Ignition/Steering Lock Cylinder

The steering column housing does not need to be removed from the steering column in order to replace or repair the lock cylinder, but removal of the entire assembly may make it easier.

To replace the ignition/steering lock cylinder, drill a 3 mm (1/8 in.) hole in the lock cylinder housing at the point indicated in Fig. 7-4. Insert a pin through the hole and press down on the spring that holds the lock cylinder in the housing. Using the ignition key may help by inserting it into the cylinder to pull the cylinder out. To install the cylinder, simply press it in without the key until it snaps into place.

Fig. 7-4. Location of 3 mm (1/8 in.) hole to be drilled in housing for access to ignition/steering lock cylinder retaining spring. Dimension a is 12 mm (15/32 in.); dimension b is 10 mm (3/8 in.).
