Washing

Washing the car in direct sunlight is not recommended. Beads of water not only leave spots when dried rapidly by the sun, but also act as tiny magnifying glasses that can burn spots into the finish. Use plenty of water, a mild soap, and a soft sponge.

Begin by spraying water over the dry finish to remove all loose dirt. Wash with lukewarm soapy water. Special car wash soap can be used, but a gentle soap such as Ivory® can do the job just as well at less expense. The idea is to get rid of the dirt without removing the wax underneath. Rinse using plenty of clear water under as little pressure as possible. Wipe the body dry with a soft terry-cloth towel or chamois to prevent water-spotting.
