6.5 Oxygen Sensor (gasoline engines only)

The oxygen sensor monitors engine combustion efficiency by measuring the oxygen content of the exhaust gasses. That information in turn helps to control the fuel injection system. Any problems with the oxygen sensor will directly affect how well the engine runs and how well emissions are controlled.

Replacement of the oxygen sensor at the specified interval ensures that the engine and emission control system will continue to perform correctly with no interruption. Failure to replace the oxygen sensor on schedule may void the emission control warranty coverage.

On 85 H.P. engines (engine code GX), the sensor is mounted in the exhaust manifold and is accessible from inside the engine compartment. On all other engines, the sensor is mounted in the exhaust system at the inlet to the catalytic converter. See EXHAUST SYSTEM AND EMISSION CONTROLS for more information on the oxygen sensor system.
