Duty Cycle Meter or Dwell MeterThe duty cycle meter is used on today's Volkswagens to measure the functions of certain components of the fuel injection system and emission controls. A dwell meter, the same type used on older cars to measure ignition breaker point dwell, can also be used for this purpose. Some tachometers can also be used as a dwell meter. Duty cycle is measured on a 0 to 100% scale. Using a dwell meter (0° to 90° scale), multiply duty cycle by 4/5 to get the dwell equivalent, and multiply dwell readings by 5/4 to convert to duty cycle percentage. |
