Inspecting and Replacing Stop Solenoid

A diesel engine is normally stopped by cutting off its fuel supply. On Volkswagen diesels, this is done by means of an electrical solenoid valve operated by the "ignition" key. The valve is normally closed. An electrical signal from the ignition switch (key ON) opens the valve. A failure of the solenoid may cause an inability to start the engine, or to stop it even if the key is turned off.
