Removing, Installing, and Adjusting Cold Start Cable

To detach the cold start cable from the pump, first loosen the clamping screw, then remove the lock washer and withdraw the cable from the bracket. See Fig. 5-7. Note the position of the washer on the cable. Attachment is the reverse of removal.

To replace the cold start cable, first remove the handle and lock nut and withdraw the cable from the dashboard. The cable components are shown in Fig. 5-8. Remove the cable from the pump as described above, and draw the entire cable through the firewall into the passenger compartment. Note the cable routing in the engine compartment. Installation is the reverse of removal.

To adjust the cold start cable, push the cold start handle all the way in, then loosen the clamping screw shown in Fig. 5-8. Without moving the lever, pull taught the end of the cable that comes through the pivot pin, and tighten the clamping screw.
