Checking and Adjusting Accelerator Cable

Check the adjustment of the accelerator cable with the engine not running. First, with a helper pressing the accelerator pedal all the way down, check to see that the governor portion of the linkage mechanism just contacts the maximum rpm adjustment screw. If, at full throttle, the lever does not reach the stop, or reaches it too soon and strains the cable, then adjustment is necessary. Remove the cable-retaining circlip shown in Fig. 5-6 and relocate the accelerator cable in its bracket until the lever just contacts the stop. Reinstall the circlip on the cable so that it holds the cable in position. Depress the accelerator pedal a few times to recheck the adjustment and re-adjust if necessary.
