Removing and Installing Bumpers

The front and rear bumpers are mounted on solid brackets bolted to the frame, with guide brackets attached to the body.

To remove the front bumper, work beneath the car to remove the two bolts from the left and right frame as shown in Fig. 6-16.

Unclip the lower ventilation grille and remove the bolts from the left and right side of the car shown in Fig. 6-17. Pull the bumper straight out and away from the car.

CAUTION-

Do not drive the car without the front bumper and brackets installed. The subframe is not properly secured with the bumper removed.

To install the front bumper, slide the bumper onto the body members, making sure that the side guides are correctly positioned. Torque the body frame bolts to 82 Nm (59 ft. lb.). Torque the front bolts to 40 Nm (29 ft. lb.).

To remove the rear bumper, work under the car to remove the bumper mounting bolts from the body frame. See Fig. 6-18.

Working in the luggage compartment, remove the bolts shown in Fig. 6-19. Pull the bumper straight out, off of the side guides and away from the car.

To install the rear bumper, slide the bumper into the body members, making sure that the bumper engages the side guides. Torque the frame mounting bolts to 70 Nm (61 ft. lb.). Torque the side body bolts to 40 Nm (29 ft. lb.).
