4.8 Rear Seats

On Jetta models with a single rear bench seat, remove the lower seat cushion by pushing it slightly toward the rear of the car to release the front catches, then pull the cushion up and out of the car. Remove the rear seat backrest by releasing the catches from inside the luggage compartment, shown in Fig. 4-46. Then remove the four nuts from inside the center arm rest opening. Installation is the reverse of removal.

On GTI and Golf models with split rear bench seats, first remove the retaining pins and the two check straps as shown in Fig. 4-47.

On all GTI and Golf models, remove the rear bench seat by removing the hinge covers and hinge mounting screws as shown in Fig. 4-48. Then release the rear seat backrest catches and pull out the seat.

To remove only the seat backrest, fold the seat forward and remove the two shoulder bolts where the backrest joins the seat, as shown in Fig. 4-49.
