1.2 Identification Codes and Specifications

Due to different power characteristics and performance requirements of various engine/model combinations, there are minor variations of the basic automatic transmission transaxle, including the torque converter. The different versions are identified by code letters.

The transmission code letters and a transmission number corresponding to date of manufacture are located on the top of the bellhousing. The automatic transmission type number 010 is found atop the transmission case near the dip stick. See Fig. 1-3. Torque converter code letters are found on the converter as shown in Fig. 1-4. Table a lists transmission specifications for all automatic transmission models covered by this manual. If replacing the transaxle or the torque converter, the replacement part's code letters should correspond to those of the original part.
