1.1 Automatic Transmission 010

All automatic transmission used on the Volkswagens covered by this manual are type number 010 and are hydraulically controlled with three forward speeds. The automatic transmission can best be described and understood by dividing it into five subsystems. These are the torque converter, the ATF pump, the planetary gear system, the hydraulic controls, and the final drive. See Fig. 1-2.
