The final drive consists of the drive pinion-which is mounted around the turbine shaft and the ATF pump driveshaft-the intermediate gear, the ring gear, and the differential. The teeth on the ring gear, the intermediate gear, and the drive pinion are helically-cut for quieter running. The differential allows the front wheels to turn at different speeds, as is necessary when turning.
