8.1 Final Drive Removal and Installation

Fig. 8-1 is an exploded view of the final drive portion of the transaxle. For access to the final drive components, the transmission must be fully disassembled as described in 7.1 Transmission Disassembly and Assembly. Once the pinion shaft is removed, the final drive can be lifted out of the gear carrier housing. When installing the final drive, it may be necessary to adjust bearing preload as described in 8.2 Final Drive Disassembly and Assembly.
