6. Cylinder Block and Pistons

Although the pistons and connecting rods can be reached with the engine in the car by removing the cylinder head and oil pan, any internal engine work should be done with the engine removed from the car.

Cylinder block problems normally result from wear due to high mileage. Low compression pressures and noise due to excessive clearances are signs of a seriously worn engine. For more information, see 3. Troubleshooting.
